Alternative Proteins - Stakeholders Networking Event 2020 (ONLINE)

Welcome to

Alternative Proteins

Stakeholders Networking Event 2020 (ONLINE)

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the Nordic countries and in Europe for the production and consumption of alternative proteins to animal-derived ones. Some of the major underlying reasons for this interest from e.g. academia, industry, governments, media, general public and other key stakeholders are:

  • to combat global warming and climate change by GHG emission reductions
  • to address deforestation, biodiversity loss and pollution
  • to reduce dependency on imported soy-based feed for animal production
  • to provide nutritious and healthy diet for the growing population
  • to accelerate the market uptake of alternative proteins that can lead to new job opportunities and local/regional development in the Nordic and European bioeconomy

In order to unfold a transformation across Nordic food systems, there is a need for new research and technologies that can be implemented in exploring more efficient ways of producing alternative proteins with a systems thinking approach. With this in mind, EIT Climate-KIC project "CSA Regional Nordic Hub (RNH): Alternative protein production in the Nordic bioeconomy” was funded with an overall aim of identifying and disseminating Nordic initiatives in order to increase knowledge capacities and accelerate the transition to alternative protein production for feed and food.

    Topics addressed

    • Alternative proteins important role in:
      • climate change mitigation and the emerging bioeconomy
      • sustainable and healthy future food systems
    • Alternative protein products and applications from Nordic countries

How can you benefit from this event?

    • Participate to the morning session of the event to:
      • Learn the important role of alternative proteins in climate change mitigation, sustainable & healthier future food systems, and emerging bioeconomy
      • Get latest knowledge and achievements in alternative protein production for food and feed in the Nordic bioeconomy with perspectives from academia and the industry
      • Get insights on  technological, financial, nutritional, legislative, environmental, societal (consumer acceptance), economical (market uptake) etc. challenges
    • Participate to the afternoon session and:
      • Use the matchmaking opportunity, initiate and arrange promising pre-scheduled 1:1 meetings at the event. Meet partners, exchange knowledge and experiences
      • Generate fresh leads and meet new contacts in a time and cost-efficient way to find partnership opportunities for research project proposals, business development, joint ventures etc.

Inspiring keynote sessions, informative presentations and targeted 1:1 meetings promises knowledge gain and collaboration opportunities.

This event aims to bring together various stakeholders from Nordic and European countries. This is a unique opportunity to share knowledge and explore potential collaboration opportunities. The model is time - and cost efficient! Meetings will take place in a dedicated area and will be arranged in advance by means of this website.

    Target participants

This event is targeted towards all stakeholders along the alternative proteins value chains including primary biomass production, processing and consumption. Some examples include, but are not limited to:

    • Academics - Senior researchers, Ph.D students
    • Industry - food, feed, biotechnology
    • Start-ups
    • SMEs
    • Public organisations - municipalities, public procurement organisations
    • Scientific and industrial research & development and innovation units
    • Policy makers
    • General public

The event is co-organised by Lund University (BIOECONOMY Graduate Research School at Centre for Environmental and Climate Research and Food Faculty), EIT Climate KIC (“Regional Nordic Hub: Alternative protein production in Nordic bioeconomy”, "Deep Demonstration of Resilient Food Systems” and "Applied Systems Science in Systems Transformations" projects), and EIT Food CLC North East. The event is organised in collaboration with Danish Technical University (DTU), Aarhus University, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Research Institute of Sweden (RISE) and University of Helsinki.
